I had 300 W PowerMan power supply with same configuration - P4 2400, 1 Gb RAM, GeForce 4 Ti 4200, combo drive (DVD and CD-RW). When i upgraded video to GeForce 6800 it wasn't enough. 360 W PowerMan power supply works fine. GeForce 6600 gt uses almost as much power as GeForce 6800 so probably you need 360 W power supply too.

You have 512 Mb RAM for sure. Most likely that BIOS uses 1 Mb to cache ROM and shows that you have less RAM.

350+, But more like a 400+. For what I run a 400 barely works.. Next Power supply will be a 500+..... But i'm running a Antec Case with a 400W I installed itself because the supply I had was a 350W it did not do the job....

I have benchmarked both of these processors in similar systems and the AMD beat the P4 by a small margin. Not bad considering how much cheaper it is. Keep in mind I also bought my Barton almost 2 years ago, when they first came out, for $80. Do you have any idea how much the P4 3.06GHz was at that time? A lot more.

i got mine for 79 (RETAIL PACKAGE)

You know what bothers me sometimes, There is alot of people who bust 600 USD on a 3gig P4 and a Geforce 6800 with all the overclockage and stuff. And you later find them complaining about there PCs running slow and buggy.
There are two reasons for this, They only have 512 mb of ram. If you want to run games with all the settings up, and the veiw distances and all, you will need around 768 or more.
And two clear spyware and adware off often.
Just some advice

Now now, I run 512 mb of ram on 3 computers and they are some of the fastest you have ever seen. BUT, you are right for the most part most people don't ever clean the cache in their browser or run drive clean-ups (I.E. Defrag) and scan disk in XP is useless.

Lol, I know..this was just a composite of the "top-o-the-line" parts available at one particular store in my city. Remember, this price is in Canadian funds, which translates to about $62.53 US...give or take a couple G's.

512 mb of ram works just fine for me, too. And as far as defragmentors go, I've found Diskeeper works pretty well.

I am overdue for a little bit of an upgrade. When Guild Wars comes out I will be running it on a Athalon XP 1800, 512mb of standard DDR ram, Radeon 9700, Soundblaster Audigy. but, by the end of the summer I should be running on a
Athalon 64 FX 939 3500, 1 gig of Corsair ram, ATI Radeon 9700, Sound Blaster Audigy and hopefully, I will have enough left over to throw in a 200 gig 7200 rpm HD.

Just so some of you know, the XP line of processors were typically behind in consideration to their "P-scale".

You can truly be surprised by the number of Intels out there when it owns more than 75% of the market share?
I have several computers but I intend on using my AMD for Guild Wars, like I do for all games.
AMD64 3500+ Winchester
Neo4 Platinum SLI
512MB XMS Corsair RAM
GeForce 6600GT
Also Sennarc, you might be misinformed, but the normal "3500+ models" are not called FX.
The majority of you don't need to worry about your computer specs. It's not like you're playing Half-Life 2, it's mostly your VGAs that are going to take a hit from a MMORPG.

Yes, because almost all of the gamers I know run AMDs. Therefore, in a gaming forum, I am suprised at the number of people running Intels.

This forum may focus around a MMORPG, but when I see MMORPG players they hardly classify as "gamers" in a lot of respects. They aren't typically as enthusiastic. Sure they have that drive for classical RPG action on a wider scope, but it doesn't even put them anywhere near the "enthusiast" list, which is really one of the only prominent groups that would think of using AMD. Also, Intel has superior influence in the market due to companies like Dell.
